Who will get the Golden Boot
The main contenders!
Last year saw RVP stroll to a 2nd consecutive Golden Boot after Suarez's misconduct took himself out of the running after a close call race for much of the season, Michu, Benteke and Lukaku announced themselves with a solid season and Gareth Bale amazed all with 21 goals whilst still technically a midfielder, earning himself a world transfer record breaking move to Spanish stars Real Madrid. Many wrongly prophesised the second coming of Torres after he stole the Euro 2012 Golden boot but he once again failed to meet the standard.
So the question is... can RVP defend his spot with a 3rd consecutive golden boot or will there be a new man in the Premier league!
RVP
The fact that the dutchman has bagged the previous 2 EPL Golden boots makes him an obvious favorite and playing in a team that has boasted high goal tallies and attacking football year after year will aid him no doubt, hes proven himself to be absolutely clinical in front of goal and extremely consistent, the fact that he doesn't score in a single given game is so unheard of that its almost considered a goal drought.
Lukaku
Jose Mourinho's decision to send Romelu out on loan was quite possibly the most baffling decision in a long time, Lukaku is quite arguably Chelsea's best Centre Forward and this is backed up by the fact that even whilst he was in rotation on loan at West Brom last season, he was still technically Chelsea's leading scorer. Its hard not to compare Lukaku to former great and club favorite Didier Drogba, he shares all the same attributes and has brilliant strength for such a young player.
Giroud
Giroud came under intense criticism when he first joined Arsenal and was unfortunate to under constant comparison with RVP, as his supposed replacement and what big shoes he had to fill, his first few games left fans and pundits unconvinced, however his form towards the back end of the season and the start of this one has seen him begin to emerge and establish himself as a very effective man to lead the line for Arsenal and may well find himself as the key front man who finishes off a lot of their intricate flowing team moves, adding a much needed aerial threat to their attack, his short time under Wenger has shown some increase in general intelligence and fans will be forgiven for wondering if Wenger may be able to weave some of his magic on him in much the same way as he did Henry and Van Persie.
Aguero
Didn't score anywhere near enough as he should have done last year, after a very promising start in his first term at Man City, however given his great talent, you wouldn't wanna rule him out completely, although his tendency to unselfishly provide for his team mates opposed to go for glory himself may hamper his chances.
Benteke
Is proving to be a sensation at Villa park, still young and with lots of room for potential, the strong belgian is a force to be reckoned with and kept Darren Bent out of the squad all last season, with consistent displays and goals which saw him up there with the best of them at the end of the season.
Suarez
Love him or hate him, he is a very talented footballer and having managed to shake off the reputation he had in his early days at Liverpool as being brilliant but unable to finish and more of a general play man than a 20+ a season finisher but all that was dispelled last year when he gave RVP a strong running for the Golden boot and potentially only missed out as a result of his misdemeanor with Chelsea's Ivanovic, which earned him a 10 game ban, effectively ruling him out of the final running for the boot.
Negredo
Looks sharp in his first few games for City, doesn't really get a look in much with Spain in recent years given their lack of desire for Forwards but may well look to establish himself in world football under Man City this year and will no doubt be adequately supplied by his team mates.
Rooney
Rooney was rather forced to drop deeper in order to play 2nd fiddle to RVP last season and recent extracts for Sir Alex's Autobiography have confirmed that his transfer request was as a consequence of being played out of position. Rooney gave RVP a real run for his money in the golden boot whilst he was at Arsenal and is on great goal scoring form for England, he has however lost his role and image as Manchester United's main man with the arrival of RVP and appeared rather outshadowed by him last season, however this year he looks revitalised under David Moyes and appears ready to fight for his old spot in the heart of the fans
Loic Remy
Newcastle seem to have a knack of picking up good strikers and Loic Remy appears to be the next in line to put himself into the hearts of the tyneside faithful, his french nationality puts him in good stead for geling with a the strong french contingent at the club and he already looks much more at home there than he ever did at QPR, Cisse appears to be in quite a goal drought, so it'll be down to Remy to prove what he can do.
Daniel Sturridge
Began scoring 1 in 1 for Bolton during his loan spell, which earnt him a regular start under AVB at Chelsea when he returned, he began in great form, scoring one a game and it really looked like his career was going up up up, however a very disapointing mid and end of season run left him down the pecking order again at Chelsea. Under Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool he finds himself in a team that is very happy to play to his strengths by keeping it on the deck and also able to play in his favored CF position, opposed to being stuck out wide as he often found himself at Chelsea and England, much to his displeasure, he shall get his chance now at LFC to prove himself as a centre forward and be guarenteed much game time due to their lack of coverage in that department. Sturridge often divides opinion and can leave you questioning his Footballing brain and attitude, as he is quite likely to take on the shot when a pass was perhaps the best option but this is potentially his greatest strength, the boy just loves to score and this will bode him well.
